Eads Eagles Are State Champions in A6 Football
November 23,
2007
As Marvin Gaye’s voice belted out "Ain’t
no mountain high, ain’t no valley low.." a song that the Eads football
team sang after every win this season, Bert Borgman, Asst. CHSAA
Commissioner was proudly handing over the state football championship
trophy, the gold ball, to the seven Eagle seniors who were the backbone of
this phenomenal team. Eads won their second football title, the first in
the 6-man ranks, and the school’s 14th overall state championship, in
great style as they downed the undefeated Peetz Bulldogs 75-19 in a
blowout game on the Eagles’ own field on Saturday afternoon.
Add to the final statistics that
head Coach Shawn Randel entered a league of his own after the win on
Saturday as the Eagle veteran has now done what no other coach in the
state of Colorado has done; Randel has won state championships in three
different sports … more than any other coach. His championships came with
both boys and girls in basketball in 2003; another girl’s basketball
championship in 2007; and now a football championship that has been
long-awaited and very welcome. Randel still holds another
"never-before-done-record" in Colorado as he is the only coach to have won

Eads Advances to State Semifinal Showdown with Idalia;
Controls Briggsdale, 62-14 in Quarters
November 9,
2007
The football gods have been hard at
work this week as events came together that will now result in a
head-to-head clash between Eads and Idalia. Eads has some unfinished
business with the Wolves and are happy to travel to Wolf Country to
conduct those transactions. Both teams will meet in one of the two state
6-man semifinal games this weekend with the winner coming out to the state
championship game next week. The last time Eads saw Idalia was in last
year’s state championship game in Eads where the Wolves walked all over
the Eagles on their way to a second consecutive state title.

A Few Dollars Now to Preserve the County’s Future
October 12,
2007
Consider this scenario: You discover
a leaking pipe under the sink in your home. Fixing it now would cost just
a few dollars, but funds are tight. Instead, you put a bucket under the
drip and vow to save money for repairs. Several months later, finances
have improved and you can now make the necessary repair. However, the leak
has grown and now you’re faced with not only replacing the pipe, but part
of the floor has been ruined and needs repairs as well. You decide to save
more to make both repairs at once. Even though finances continue to
improve, the damage is growing a step ahead of the money. What was once
just a matter of a few dollars and a small amount of effort is now a huge,
expensive project.
Eads Volleyball Pounds Hi-Plains, 3-0; Prepares For Kit
Carson
October 12,
2007
This was the first time Eads has met
up with the Hi-Plains volleyball program but on Friday night in Eads the
13-3 Eagles came out swinging against a young, but talented Patriot group.
Hi-Plains has a decent record, but has been in some scraps this year
losing 3-2 to such teams as Kit Carson and Flagler. However, on Friday
night in Eads it was the Eagles’ advantage as they out-powered the young
Patriots in three straight, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-18. Eads now has a
crucial game on Friday night with the defending state champions, Kit
Carson, a match that will determine seeding advantage for the quickly
approaching District volleyball tournament.
Winter
Weather Preparedness When Traveling
October 5,
2007
October is here, and while it may seem like winter is still far in
the future, it was ten years ago this month that southeast Colorado was
paralyzed by snow from a blizzard. While the Old Farmer’s Almanac might be
calling for a relatively mild winter, storms are still possible, and now
is the time to check and restock the winter emergency kit in your vehicle.
A basic kit will include first aid
supplies, battery jumper cables, shovel, tool kit, and windshield scraper
– items you may already be carrying. In addition, include blankets or
sleeping bags; flashlight; radio; extra batteries; extra clothing such as
caps, mittens and socks; bright strips of cloth to signal you need
assistance; and a bag of sand or litter box filler to use for
The Jungle Mobile is Coming to Eads
September 28,
2007
The Kiowa County Ambulance Service
partnering with Weisbrod Memorial Hospital and the Eads Lions Club are
bringing the Jungle Mobile to Eads. This Mobile Injury Prevention Project
is a partnership with the Children's Hospital, and St. Anthony's Central
Hospital located in Denver. The Jungle Mobile will teach children to "play
it safe in the jungle" and learn important safety topics including: Being
safe in cars; being a safe pedestrian and bike rider; being safe from
falls; being safe from fires; being safe in the water; and how to respond
in an emergency. These safety messages are taught in seven interactive
learning stations that are set up outside the vehicle, with an eighth
station inside the vehicle.
